Don't worry about Michigan winters - Metro Detroit relocation informationAs a Metro Detroit real estate agent I hear from many people that relocate to Metro Detroit that they are worried about Michigan winters. In the last few years I have had clients relocate from Texas, from California, from Georgia, and all over. Many of the southern buyers are not used to snow. Some of my relocation clients have never driven in the snow. It's hard for me to believe living without snow. Snow and the cold is no different that hurricanes, tornadoes, extreme heat, or flooding. You just deal with it. You don't go out in it if you don't have to. You drive slower and more carefully that's all. You just have to give yourself more space between cars, more room to stop. You bundle up and dress appropriately. Shovel the snow and put salt on the walks. Our winters here in the Metro Detroit area are not that ferocious. We only get an average of 40" inches of snow a season. It sounds like a lot but that is only 10 inches a month. Most of the time it melts before the next snowfall. Very rarely does snow stay on the ground a whole month. So don't be nervous about Michigan's winters. In fact if you have kids they will may learn to love winter sports such as sledding, skiing, or snow boarding. Kids love the snow. So don't worried about the snow and cold. Nothing like snuggling up in your new home on the couch with a blanket, hot chocolate, and a roaring fire in the fireplace.
