If you are moving to Detroit Michigan because of a Ford Motor relocation here are a few tips for you.  As you know most of Ford Motor's buildings are in the Dearborn Michigan area.  

So you want to know what cities are close enough to you.  My past Ford relocation home buyers have bought in Canton, Ann Arbor, Plymouth, Northville, Livonia, Pittsfield Township, West Bloomfield, and even as far away as Novi.

 Plymouth MI

You will have less travel time going towards Ann Arbor on I-94 because the traffic pattern is lighter than traveling I-96 or Southfield freeway.  Use mapquest and put in Ford Motors address and the cities you are thinking about.

My guesses would be about 35 minutes to Canton, Plymouth, Pittsfield Township.  40 Minutes to Northville.  45 Minutes to Novi, West Bloomfield.

The school districts of West Bloomfield and Northville are probably two of the better school districts in the area.  If you are moving to Detroit Michigan you can do some checking on the different school districts by googling "compare schools".  There are quite a few different school rating sites to check out.

All of the cities I listed above are cities where it is safe to walk the streets at night, where if you have crime it is going to be a random crime.  Where a women and children can feel safe.
