Lake Sherwood MI information

The lake is a man made lake. Lake Sherwood is an 258 acre all-sports lake.   The main lake is 147.3 acres, the canals are 18.1 and the south side is 94.6 acres. There are 11.4 miles of shoreline. There are 2 acres of islands one of which is called Higgins Islands. There is also a shallow area at the entrance of the main lake that was once an island. The deepest part of the lake is 20 feet deep. 

There are two tunnels to get to the canals. Ledgewood tunnel is 29 ft wide and 9 ft tall and the other tunnel is Commerce Tunnel 12 ft wide and 11 tall. The main park is Kendall Park.

The lake was man made during the 1950's. James Cole and Lewis Easlick were 2 men that brought Lake Sherwood from a dream into reality. At one point they had a dream of connecting all the lakes they had made together. The other lakes they dug and developed are Cedar Island Lake, Neva Lake, and Brendal Lake. Lot prices in 1960 were $8,900 but they were not selling. They raised the price to $10,150 and then the lots started selling. Lake Sherwood hosted the State salom championship in 1958 - 59.

The dam is 1600 ft long and the lake outlet flows into the Huron River via Ann Arbor into Lake Erie. During the fall they lower the level of the lake.                  

Lake Sherwood Fishing   

Lake Sherwood association has been stocking the lake with Walleye, Pike, and large mouth bass to maintain good fishing for the residents.  They even hold a fishing contest and maintain records of the largest catches.  Here are some of the fish that are in Lake Sherwood

Lake Sherwood is a short drive to downtown Milford, Michigan.  In less than 5 to 10 minutes will get you to restaurants, shopping.  Lake Sherwood homesare only a short distance from I-96 and Twelve Oaks Mall.  You can reach downtown Detroit in under 40 minutes and to Southfield in about 20 minutes.
