Livonia Homes

Like most of Wayne and Oakland County Livonia's first settlers came in the 1820's.  For the first hundred years it was a farming community.  but that started to change in the late 1940's with the building of 2 automotive plants.  Both GM and Ford Motor company built plants in the 1940's.  Then harness racing came to Livonia in 1949.  In order for Livonia get some of the revenue the township had to become incorporated.  So Livonia became a city on May 23, 1950.  Livonia only had about 17,000 people in 1950 and grew to over 100,000 residents in 2000.

Livonia started growing in the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's.  Livonia first started building ranches in the 1950's.  The average brick ranch went from 1000 to 1400 square foot.  The ranches had 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a basement.  Some had detached garages and some had 2 car attached garages.

Then in the 1960's and 1970's Livonia real estate changed.  Livonia's builders started to mix it up.  They started building 1800 -2400 square foot colonials with 3 and 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, 2 car garage, basement, living room, dining room, and family room.  Tri-levels and quad- levels range from 1700 -2500 square ft.  3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 baths.  Then they started building large spacious ranches on larger lots.                                                   

But Livonia didn't stop building there.  All the way up to 2009 builders bought up the vacant lots and any vacant land to build large homes with all the modern amenities.  Open layouts, granite counter tops, first floor master bedrooms, large walk in closets were just some of the many features that became available in Livonia home styles.
