Metro Detroit condos have become very reasonable.  In some instances you can find Northville Condos, Livonia condos,or Westland Condos for as little as $50 a square foot.  I know that to be a fact because I have helped three different clients find bargains in each of these Metro Detroit cities.

I don't know if it is just my clients and people I know that get into trouble at condos, but you have to remember you have to follow the rules.  All condo associations have by-laws.  Get them and read them before you buy any Metro Detroit condo.  Condo rules are usually inflexible.  You follow them or you get charged.  You have to pay or it gets added onto your association dues.  Most Metro Detroit condo associations have  close relationship with an attorney.  

It is in the condo association's best interest not to deviate from the rules.  If they let one person break a rule, then it would be hard enforcing the rule on somebody else.  So usually it is one size fits all.  The rule is the rule.  No exceptions.

I have had friends fined for flying an American flag, for putting a lawn ornament out, for cutting down bushes.  You can't just re-landscape your condo without permission from the condo association.  Even things like Christmas decorations, door color, parking are governed by association rules.  So be sure to read them.  You have to live by the condo association by-laws.  No if, ands, or buts about it.

So if you are not a big rule follower, or have a very independent streak read the by-laws and think hard about buying a Metro Detroit condo
