Metro Detroit relocation crime statistics

So you have a Metro Detroit suburb relocation in your future and you wonder about crime statistics and how safe the local cities are.  So how safe is the City of Detroit and the local Metro Detroit suburbs.  The Detroit area gets a bad reputation by the national media because of the City of Detroit.   The majority of Metro Detroit is safe and great places to live.

This is a general guide of crime and safety in Metro Detroit suburbs.

The City of Detroit crime is bad.  I would not recommend living in the City of Detroit if you were a single woman living alone and  moving here for the first time.

I will rank the Metro Detroit area in three different categories.  The cities with the highest crime statistics, the next highest crime statistics, and then what I would call the highest level of safe cities.  I know this will rankle some feathers to group some of these cities into these categories.  This is just a guide.  You can use the following sources for a more detailed and accurate guide.

Detroit, Ecorse, Hamtramck,  Pontiac

Next Highest Metro Detroit suburb Crime areas

I would say the ring of cities that are closest to the City of Detroit have the next level of crime.  They are safe to live in.  I myself would live in any of these cities.  I would sell any of my neices a home in these cities if they wanted to live there.  They are safe but have a higher number of crimes per capitat versus the next category.  You can walk the streets at night with out fear of being robbed, crime isn't a major issue.  But your insurance rates will be a little higher.  This ring of cities has a little more auto thefts, robberies than the higher social economic cities. Some of these cities are included just because a section of the city is right next to Detroit.  Thus getting some of the crime overflowing into their city.  All of these police departments are good full time Departments that are working hard to reduce the crime.

River Rouge, Lincoln Park, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Inkster, Romulus, Ypsilanti, Belleville, Van Buren Twp, Redford, Southfield, East Point, Harper Woods, Lathrup Village, Oak Park, Ferndale, Warren, Hazel Park, Taylor
