Michigan relocation information about Home owner associations 

Do all Metro Detroit homes have neighborhood associations?  No many of the older subdivisions prior to 1980 don't have them.  Some do between 1960 and 1980.  But many of the associations are so lax or have not enforced the neighborhood bylaws.  I live in a neighborhood that has an association and bylaws.  But many of the by laws have not been enforced.

After 1980 most of the newer subdivisions in the metro Detroit area do have home owner associations.  In the newer subdivisions they have neighborhood associations that are in charge of maintaining the common areas of the subdivisions. Many of the subdivisions have green spaces with walking paths and small parks. The home owner associations have monthly or annual dues.

The cost of those dues depends on what needs to be maintained and how extensive the landscaping is.  Stonewater subdivision in Northville home owner association dues cover pumping more water into the lakes to maintain the lake levels.  Island Lakes subdivision association dues cover the club house and the beaches too.

As I tell everybody that is buying a home in a subdivision with an association is to read the association by laws. To make sure you can live with them. Usually the rules are set up to keep up nice appearance of the neighborhood.  The newer associations don't want  car sitting in the drive with no motor or storage of trailers and boats outside.art
