 Here is my third installment of  Michigan trivia and more interesting Michigan fun facts.

Did you know any of these Michigan facts?

1855 - Michigan State University was founded as the nation's first land-grant university and served as the model for 69 land-grant institutions later established under the Morrill Act of 1862. It was the nation's first institution of higher learning to teach scientific agriculture.

Alpena is the home of the world's largest cement plant. 

 The Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit manufactured the first air-conditioned car in 1939.

That the saying "the real McCoy" originated from a Michigan inventor named Elijah J. McCoy.  Elijah was a black inventor raised in Ypsilanti in 1872, patented the first automatic lubrication system for locomotives and other machinery. The device was so effective it was difficult to sell imitations that were not "the real McCoy"; McCoy's name became synonymous with anything genuine or authentic.

 The Detroit Zoo was the first zoo in America to feature cageless, open-exhibits that allowed the animals more freedom to roam.

Indian River is the home of the largest crucifix in the world. It is called the Cross in the Woods.

Michigan is called the Wolverine State, they thought there were no wolverines in Michigan.  However supposedly, one was spotted in 2007, so hopefully there is at least one.
