The Upper Michigan Copper Country is the largest commercial deposit of native copper in the world. 

Actor Jeff Daniels named the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea after Woody Allen's movie, The Purple Rose of Cairo (he starred in the movie)

There is enough salt under metro Detroit and surrounding areas to cover the world's consumption for 70 million years.

Michigan is home to the nation's first Indian casino, King's Club at Bay Mills, which opened July 4, 1984.

The first state welcome center was opened in 1935 near Buffalo.

Larry LaPrise (Roland Lawrence LaPrise) born: 11 November 1912 in Detroit Michigan wrote and held the copywrite to the "hokey pokey" 

Detroit is home to the oldest state fair in the nation - the Michigan State Fair, first held in 1849

Detroit's WWJ began commercial broadcasting of regular programs in 1919. It was the first such radio station in the nation.

The world's 1st international railway tunnel was opened between Port Huron, and Sarnia in 1891.
