 Here is another installment of my Michigan trivia and interesting Michigan fun facts.

Soo- locks - The ships are lowered or raised twenty-one feet between the upper and lower levels of the St. Mary's River. 

In 1992 the first practical highway snowplow developed in the United States was designed and built by Edward C. Levy, Munising's public works superintendent. It was mounted on runners and consisted of two wooden wings, each 10 feet high and 20 feet long. The wings were retractable, permitting the plowing of all city streets, county roads or alleyways, but they were obsolete in a few years with the advent of rotary, angle and V-plows mounted on the front of trucks.

 Detroit is has the most registered bowlers in the United States

 The state of Michigan has roughly a population of over 9 million, yet the Upper Peninsula only has 300,000 residents.  The U.P. also comprises 1/3rd of the total land mass of the state of Michigan.  

 J. L. Hudson's in Detroit became the first air-conditioned department store in 1924.

 Sault Ste. Marie was established in 1641 by early French fur traders and was the first European settlement to be made in, what is now known as "Michigan".  Sault Ste Marie is Michigan's oldest city. It is also the third oldest continuous settlement in the United States.

Detroit shares the world's first auto traffic tunnel between two nations - the Detroit/Windsor Tunnel

Believe it or not, the U.P. also has over 100 waterfalls within its boundaries

The first commercially-prepared baby food was invented by Daniel F. Gerber of Fremont, Michigan in 1927.

Michigan has lead the way many times with inventions, processes, and songs.  Even in these tough times it is good to realize that we can come back here in the Motor City area.
