Before playing as the Red Wings, they were known as the Detroit Cougars (1926-1930) and the Detroit Falcons (1930-1932) The Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit manufactured the first air-conditioned car in 1939. The Lions name was chosen by George A. Richards, the Detroit radio executive who purchased the Portsmouth Spartans and moved the team to Detroit in 1934. The Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1936, 1937, 1943, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1997 and 1998 In 1971 Michigan was the first to complete a border-to-border interstate highway, I-94, that runs 205 miles from Detroit to New Buffalo.
