Moving to Michigan - Michigan relocation informationIf you are moving to Michigan you want as much Michigan relocation informationas possible. I am going to try to explain about how Metro Detroiters distinguish different parts of the Detroit area and suburbs. The southern part of Detroit's suburbs is called "Downriver". Downriver starts south of Dearborn. Downriver cities include Wyandotte, Lincoln Park, Ecorse, Allen Park, Taylor, Trenton, Riverview, Southgate, Flat Rock, Brownstown, and a few more. The western suburbs are called the "West Side". Redford, Livonia, Dearborn, Garden City, Westland, Canton, Plymouth, Northville are some of the cities that are called the west side. The "East Side" is really the North east side as there is no east side of Detroit. The only east side is really the Grosse Pointes and the actual river. So some of the cities that we call the East side is Rochester, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, St. Clair Shores, Mt. Clemens, Roseville, Clawson, Shelby Twp, Chesterfield and quite a few more. But there is central Oakland County that we really have no name for. There is really only the East side, the west side, and downriver. I hope this gives you a little idea of what local residents call the areas around Detroit. If you are moving to Michigan and have more questions about the area feel free to call or email me. Hopefully I will be able to send you the information you need or point you in the direction to find the information.
