Oakland County Lake home buying tip about buying a home with lily pads or lake weeds in front of it.  Remember the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is much tougher about disturbing, or pulling out the natural vegetation.

I'm not saying it isn't done on the sly.  Yes some Oakland County lake home owners do put in lake vegetation killer at night to control weeds in front of there homes.  Yes they do pull out some of the lilly pads in front of there homes.

But it is illegal to do so without getting permission from the DNR.  So if you are looking at an Oakland County lake home with lilly pads or cattails or some other weeds in front of it.... Assume you can not change that.

You won't be able to hire somebody to come out and dredge it out and clean it up.   There are fines, jail time for doing it. So plan on it being in front of the house.  Look for a different Oakland county lake home if you don't like it.
