Video of Downtown Northville Michigan

Here is a video of downtown Northville if you have a Michigan relocation in your future.   Northville and Northville Twp are conveniently located on the western suburbs of Detroit.  Located about 35 minutes from the airport, 25 minutes from Ann Arbor, and 30 minutes from downtown Detroit Northville is a great place to call home.

This isn't a professional shot video of Northville, I just shot it with one of those inexpensive flip video cameras.  I just wanted to show that it wasn't a dead empty downtown.  People love to stroll downtown, browse the stores, and stop in the local restaurants.  The locals support the downtown.  Pooles Tavern, Riffles, Tiramisu, Rebecca's, or the Starting Gate all all favorite places to eat or have a drink.

So if you have a Michigan relocation in your future be sure to check out downtown Northville

Downtown Northville Michigan

 Northville Real Estate

Downtown Northville is the center focus for both Northville and Northville Township.  The City of Northville was incorporated as a village in 1867 and as a city in 1955.  The Township was established in 1898 and became a Charter Township in 1985.  The City of Northville is a delightful mix of old and new.  Northville retains it's historic atmosphere and yet is lively and energetic.  Northville's community of approximately 6500 residents located on the western fringe of Wayne County and the Detroit Metro area just west of I-275.

Here is a quick look at downtown Northville.  Now this is just an amatuer video so don't expect it to be perfect.  I just want to give people who are thinking of moving to metro Detroit a quick look and an idea of what Northville is like.

Livonia Hazardous Waste day - where to go in Livonia Michigan

Wondering where you need to go to get rid of the stuff the garbage truck won't take.  Well here is the information you need.

The first Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Waste Drop-off event in 2010 will be held Saturday, March 27, 2010.  Wayne County will be conducting a drop-off event from 8:00am to 2:00pm at the Redford Township Public Service Yard located at 12200 Beech Daly Road (South of I-96).

This event is your opportunity to rid your garage, basement, shed, etc., of items such as paints, stains, fertilizer, lawn & garden chemicals, antifreeze, gasoline, etc.  In addition, electronic waste will be accepted including computers, monitors, printers, scanners, cell phones, fax machines, televisions, etc.

Additional information is available at the City of Livonia website www.ci.livonia.mi.us under Departments-DPW Public Service-Household Hazardous Waste

The Saturday, March 27th event is open only to residents of Wayne County and only household waste will be accepted.

I hope this helps you.  I believe if you are a resident of Plymouth, Canton, or Northville you can go to Redford to get rid of your Electronic and hazardous waste.

How to do a financial comparison - Northville home buying tips

When buying a home it may take a comparision between the homes.  In this example I will use a piece of Northville real estate and a West Bloomfield Township home.  When you start making your decision you of course write down what you like and what you don't like in a home.  But you should also do a financial breakdown.  By doing a financial comparision you may find some surprising differences.

Where the comparisions may differ in prices are

  • association fees - different complexs and subdivisions have different homeowners association fees.  So be sure to include that in your comparision.
  • PMI - You may be choosing between two different price ranges.  On the higher priced house you may not have enough down payment to cover the 20% down.  You may be required to pay PMI because you don't have the 20% down.  This can be costly, so be sure to include this.
  • homeowners insurance  - different cities have different insurance rates.  Call a local insurance agent to get a quote.  It may make you change your mind.  You may not have realized how bad the crime was.

Here is the info on Both houses.  I just estimated interest rates and the PMI.  The PMI may be higher.

                                              Northville                                       West Bloomfield
purchase price                         224,000                                           300,000 deposit                                     40,000                                             40,000

Association fees                           2220

taxes                                          6008                                               6742

taxes broken down monthly            500                                                  561

loan amount with 60k down       179,200                                           260,000

payment at 5.5% 30 year              1017.48                                           1476.25

monthly taxes                               500                                                  561

homeowners insurance                     70                                                   70

association fee                                                                                    185 PMI                                                                                                   100                                            ______________

                                        _______________                         ________________

Total                                         $1587.48                                  $2392.25

Sure you may love both homes but the financial considerations should over ride your loves.  Sure you love that $300,000 West Bloomfield home.  If you can't afford the house payment THEN DON'T BUY THE HOUSE.

If it is a major stretch for your financials.  THEN DON'T BUY IT.  I want you to own the house five years from now.  I don't want you to be house poor.  I want you to enjoy your house.  I hope this break down gives you an idea of how to put together your comparision.

Have a great day!
