Last year I went into a beautiful Livonia home that was priced well below market price.  I couldn't understand why it was priced so low.  Then we walked into the basement and saw all the mold!  There was mold all over the walls.  The drywall was a wide array of different colors of mold.

I wanted to know what's behind that wall?  What's behind the drywall?  What I mean is what type of basement wall is there?  Is there a poured basement wall or is it a block basement?  When the basement is drywalled, the basement walls are block,  and the basement is full of mold I say run.

The problem is that you don't really know where the water problem is.  You need to know that?  Where did the water come from to cause the basement mold?  If it is a basement that is dry walled and it is a block basement you won't know that until you take the drywall down.

You can't take the basement drywall down until you own the house.  So how you do you know if the basement walls are sound?  Are there major cracks behind the drywall?  Is the wall caving in?  Is the wall bowed?  The drywall could be hiding all the problems?

The mold is a result of a water leak.  And you don't know the source of the leak because it is hiding behind the drywall.  Repairi  So buying a Livonia home with block basement walls that are drywalled is a huge gamble.

So not only would you have the cost of remediating the mold, fixing the basement back to the way it was, but you could have the hidden cost of repairing the block basement walls.  So when looking at a Livonia home or any home with basement mold be careful and don't under estimate the costs.
